WELCOME

Gender inequality in wellness and research are major issues still seen today. Women—especially those from rural India—not only face unique health concerns, but also social and cultural stigmas associated with them. In a world where the fight for survival is fierce and resources are scarce, how does one of limited means access good healthcare? Let alone her children? This blog explores the efforts being done by The Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRII) to increase female wellbeing in the Mysuru district of Karnataka, India. By ensuring a woman's needs one step at a time, you ensure her happiness in the long run.

Bio

My name is Sanchi, and I'm a student at Emory University majoring in Biology and minoring in Anthropology. My research interests include cardiology, maladaptive substance use behaviors, microbiology, neurodegenerative disorders, as well as women and children's health, particularly in the context of disease modeling and intervention methods. As I continue to think about my future career, I want to create and increase the accessibility of treatments to communities that are unable to afford good healthcare. Apart from having an interest in treatment-based approaches, I'm also keen to learn more about evidence-based research including: screening and quality assessments. Thus, I believe that the Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRII) will give me the tools to better understand women's emotional, maternal-child, and reproductive healthcare needs.
